The performance and graphics were really great, the Hogwarts Castle was great, the combat was good, etc. I just wish they had taken it a different direction. That said - yeah I was disappointed but there were lots of positives that deserve recognition and I don't want Avalanche to think the majority of the sub never wants them to do another Harry Potter game. They tried to make the game too accessible for younger audiences and more casual older players who have little frame of reference for where the standard has been set by other Triple AAA games, and it suffered because of it The more I played the more it became obvious that Avalanche were out of their depth for a game of this scope, which is not entirely their fault (Who turns down such an opportunity?) however Warner Bros REALLY should have seen the writing on the wall much sooner Because I would have just not bought the game and wouldn't have invested time into it I wouldn't have minded all that much if the game was marketed correctly and we weren't sold a bunch of misinformation/outright lies. How exactly does this not bear the responsibility of setting expectations that Hogwarts Legacy would be an involved RPG experience rather than the limited open world action game we actually got? There are people that say our disappointment is not the fault of Avalanche but the fault of community expectations - sorry but the game was literally marketed as "Choose Your Adventure" in the Harry Potter universe. ![]()
